The pressure plate is a metal disc. In its normal state, it is tightly integrated with the clutch plate and becomes a whole. It rotates with the engine and transmits power to the gearbox. When the clutch pedal is depressed, the pressure plate separates from the clutch plate, cutting off the engine's power output, and you can shift gears. Lift the clutch pedal, and the pressure plate is combined with the clutch plate again to transmit power.

What is widely used is a friction clutch pressed by a spring (friction clutch for short). The torque generated by the engine is transmitted to the driven plate through the friction between the flywheel and the contact surface between the pressure plate and the driven plate. When the driver depresses the clutch pedal, the large end of the diaphragm spring drives the pressure plate to move backward through the transmission of the mechanical parts. At this time, the driven part is separated from the active part.
